DAY 1

Welcome to Japan!

Airport Pick-up – private ride from Haneda Airport to our hotel

4PM – Tour Kickoff Meet and Greet then we head right out to a sunset river cruise on a futuristic boat to get grand views of the city around us.

DAY 2

Oct 18 | Sunday

TOKYO

explore

We’ll tackle quite a bit on our first day in the city, including the following:

Visit Tokyo Skytree, where we’ll get great aerial views of the city and, hopefully, see Mt. Fuji if the weather cooperates

Explore the Sensjoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple

Stroll through the Kaminarimon Gate and along Nakamise Shopping Street

Grab a meal at the Asakusa Sumo Club, featuring Sumo wrestlers

We’ll also make our way through the Tsukiji Outer Market, where we can find fresh seafood, produce, and legendary knife shops

DAY 3, 4, 5

Oct 19, 20, 21 | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

KYOTO

We’ll take the Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto (2.5 hours) where we’ll settle into our next hotel for three nights.

Later, we’ll sample a completely different form of transportation- the rickshaw. Kyoto was Japan’s capital for over a thousand years and is still considered to be one of Japan’s most important cultural cities.

On our list of things to see are:

  • Fushimi Inari Taisha (the orange street, one of the most iconic shrines in Kyoto and there are around 10,000 Torii gates here)
  • Arashiyama Bamboo Forest (This approximately 400-meter path leads from Nonomiya Shrine, through the north gate of Tenryu-ji Temple, to Okochi Sanso Villa.
  • Nijo Castle (former Imperial villa)
  • Kionkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion)
  • Sanjusangendo Temple, famous for its 1001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, and the longest wooden structure in Japan
  • Kiyomizudera Temple, where a 13-meter veranda hangs out over the hillside without a single nail in its construction.
  • We’ll walk through the Gion District
  • Visit Yasaka Shrine
  • Nishiki Market, where you can find everything from food to souvenirs
  • Sake Tasting

DAY 6, 7

Oct 22, 23 | Thursday, Friday

OSAKA

We’ll leave Kyoto behind for a quick train ride to Osaka (30 min) where we’ll visit the Osaka Castle and later head to Dotonbori which features takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and street food. We’ll venture out to Nara where we’ll feed the sacred deer in the park and visit the Todai-ji Temple.

DAY 8

Oct 24 | Saturday

HIROSHIMA

Today we’ll take a day trip to Hiroshima (90 min) to see the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Dome. We’ll head back by train to Tokyo for the night.

DAY 9

Today we depart and say Sayonara to our new friends, leaving behind with a whole bunch of amazing memories!

Please note: This trip includes a fair amount of walking—often on uneven surfaces and up and down stairs, sometimes without elevators or escalators. To fully enjoy the experience, participants should be in good physical health, able to walk at a moderate pace for extended periods, and comfortably manage stairs and inclines.
