Walk one of Europe’s most meaningful journeys on the Camino de Santiago – Portuguese Central Route, traveling through charming villages, historic cities, vineyards, and coastal landscapes. This small-group experience blends daily walks with comfort, connection, and intention—so you can focus on the journey, not the logistics. Along the way, you’ll share meals, stories, and unforgettable moments, arriving in Santiago with a deep sense of accomplishment and clarity that stays with you long after the final step.

Here’s the itinerary (subject to change if weather or conditions warrant):
Day 1 (April 20) Arrive in Porto, Portugal by 3pm
Arrive and settle into your hotel in this vibrant riverside city. In the evening, meet your fellow travelers for a welcome briefing and group dinner, where we’ll introduce the Camino, review the journey ahead, and set intentions for the days to come.

Day 2 (April 21): Explore Porto by day, sunset boat trip that evening
Begin your day along the Ribeira waterfront, where colorful buildings line the Douro River and traditional boats drift by, then walk through Porto’s historic streets. Visit São Bento Train Station to admire its iconic blue-and-white azulejo tiles, then continue to Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) for sweeping views over the city—an inspiring way to start the journey ahead.
Midday: Livraria Lello & Lunch
Stop by the legendary Livraria Lello, one of the world’s most beautiful bookstores, known for its dramatic staircase and stained glass ceiling. Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, sampling classic Portuguese dishes such as grilled fish, bacalhau, or a lighter take on the famous francesinha.
Afternoon: Douro River Cruise & Port Wine Cellars
Cross the river to Vila Nova de Gaia for a short Douro River cruise, offering a unique perspective of Porto’s bridges and skyline. Then visit a traditional Port wine cellar to learn about the region’s winemaking history and enjoy a guided tasting of Portugal’s most famous export.

Day 3 (April 22): Train to Valenca→ O Porrino
We’ll check out of our hotel and take the train to Valenca, on the northern border of Portugal, where we’ll start our Camino. When we arrive, we’ll walk across the International Bridge into Spain, through the medieval town of Tui, ultimately ending our day in O Porriño.

Overnight: O Porrino
Day 4 (April 23): O Porrino→ Arcade
We’ll walk through a series of villages and up through the pine forest of Chan das Pipas. We’ll get glimpses of the Ria de Vigo estuary as we walk into Redondela, where the central and coastal routes merge. End the day in the small riverside town of Arcade, renowned for its oysters.

Overnight: Arcade
Day 5 (April 24): Arcade→ Pontevedra
Approx. 8 miles / 13 km
Today we have a gentle and picturesque walk through shaded paths and small villages. We’ll arrive in Pontevedra, a charming historic city with lively plazas and one of the most beautiful old towns on the Camino.
Overnight: Pontevedra

Day 6 (April 25): Pontevedra → Caldas de Reis
Approx. 13.6 miles / 22 km
We’ll walk through peaceful forests and rural hamlets, following rivers and stone pathways. We will end the day in Caldas de Reis, known for its natural hot springs—perfect for soaking our tired feet.

Day 7 (April 26): Caldas de Reis → Padrón
Approx. 11.8 miles / 19 km
This symbolic day brings us to Padrón, where the body of St. James is said to have first arrived by boat. The energy builds as Santiago draws closer.

Day 8 (April 27): Padrón → Santiago de Compostela
Approx. 14.9 miles / 24 km
This is our final walking day. Emotions run high as we enter Santiago and reach the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. We’ll celebrate our achievement, attend the Pilgrim’s Mass if desired, and enjoy a special farewell dinner with the group.

Day 9 (April 28): Depart Santiago (or Optional Extra Night)
Enjoy a relaxed morning before we depart back by train (3.5 hours) to Porto, or extend your stay to explore Santiago further and reflect on your Camino experience. You also have the option of flying home from Santiago if you prefer.![]()
